    Vintage autos in Alabama can run with period Alabama plates.

    This law provides that owners of older motor vehicles designated a 1976 model year or earlier that qualify as a Vintage Motor Vehicle have an option of requesting a new license plate or displaying an original Alabama license plate that was issued in the year corresponding to the model year of the vehicle. Check with you local license officials for more information.

  • October 1, 1996 - Act 96-818 - Vintage Vehicle Tag
    Vintage Vehicle Tag replaces Alabama's Antique Auto Tag.

    Vehicle must be 30 years or older and operated as a collectors item. This means the vintage auto is used primarily for participation in club activities, tours, exhibitions, parades, and not used for general transportation purposes. Any antique license plate issued prior to October 1, 1996, shall become invalid on October 1, 1997.

  • September 30, 1965 - Antique Auto Tag Becomes Law
    Antique vehicles more than twenty five years old and operated primarily as a collectors item can be licensed for $10 fee.

    The Second Special Session of the 1965 Legislature enacted Act No. 116 which provided for the registration and licensing of antique vehicles upon application to the Department of Revenue.
